He’s hanging in there! Someone bought him a TechDeck Guy Mariano hubba (?) set up– I think its keeping his mind occupied. Im pretty sure hes the only kid on the floor with a TNT/skull tshirt too!

We met Johnny 2 years ago at the Make A Wish Jam in Houston. He was skating the park like a lifer. His positive attitude and great outlook won us all over. He became Real’s youngest pro and we have been proud to make his board since then on the Actions REALized line. Skateboarding and skateboarders came out and together we were able to raise over 16,000 bucks so far for the MAW through the sale of his decks. More importantly Johnny and his family have become part of our family.
Friday Johnny’s parents called and we got the news that Johnny’s cancer has returned. It was one of the roughest calls I have ever received. Johnny is a fighter. His family is amazing. He’s going to pull it.
But he’s going to have a tough few months ahead. Were saving a seat in the van for his first tour - so he has to get well soon!

Its late. Just getting home from a long day at the plant and a solo dojo session on way too much coffee and old punk rock in the headphones. Thought of you the whole day. You hang fucking tough. You are one of us. The Lifers. Family. All of us in skateboarding - not just Real or Deluxe - but skateboarding - are all sending you the best wishes and positive thoughts. The seat in the van is waiting. You just pick the date and we’ll hit the road. Stay positive through the hard times. It aint always easy and although it sucks sometimes sometimes that’s ok. Know that It makes the good times that much better. All of us have been touched and motivated by your strengths ( and your frontside ollies). Again stay positive - and don’t give your parents too hard a time - this tough time will pass and we have a lot of rolling ahead - and then we’ll really give Mike and Julie a hard time….. kidding … sort of….. wait till you call ‘em from a roadside hotel after skating all day with Dennis - and we’re going for a midnight generator session - thats when it really gets good… and it will my friend. It will get good and you’ll be in it.

a close family member recently had something similar come back. she fought it off 15 years ago and will do so again. so will you. i may not know you but from everything i’ve seen you’re a kid with ample spunk with a good dose of fire in the belly. never give up hope, it’s all we have and can never be taken from us. eat well, sleep hard and skate when you can.

I dont know you but i like to help kids with cancer. I know how it is for someone to have cancer in the family. My grandpa died a few months ago from lung cancer.I hope that doesnt happen to you. Stay strong little man!!

Being the father of newborn myself, I can say with all my heart that I’m thinking of you and all the kids fighting immeasurable battles against diseases like cancer. If you learn anything from skating, it’s if you want to get some, you’re going to take some lumps. Men are made when you get back up and keep fighting. Keep your head up and never give up.

At a very young age of 6 months my sister got full blown adult lukemia(spell?). Anyway she hung in there for 5 long years and beat it. I believe the same for you, no matter how tough the times get man just remember you can beat this! Easier said than done I know, but hope is sometimes the only thing a person has in this world. Johnny, i received your footage from Darin lastweek & had no idea what i was going to edit.Soon as started checkin out your footage it took me back to my old driveway sessions. Then u guys went to a new makeshift concrete spot that look real fun to skate, but u took me out with the slash grind. At my age thats all i would’ve had for that spot. Hi Johnny, this is Jeff Bower. My friends call me Krusty. You don’t know me, but I know you. You’re a skater, like me. You’re young and I’m old, but we’re the same, through skateboarding. My favorite skateboarding memories are of when I was about your age. That was 40 years ago and still, whenever I face tough times, I always close my eyes and think back to when I was your age, riding my skateboard, trying to pull a new trick. And that awesome feeling you get when you finally land it. That is something that us skaters have that most people won’t ever understand. We have that “feeling” of defying gravity on our skateboards, and it stays in us for life. I know you’re going through some tough stuff right now, so do like I do and put yourself back on that skateboard in your mind and shred there until you can do it in person again. Do whatever the doctors say and soon as you are strong enough we will all skate the Jamail ( Houston ) skate park together. yo dude…been following your story for some time now…
my dad used to always tell me when i got hurt that things were “a long way from my heart” and i was never sure what it meant.
i understood it was i got older…and he meant that as long as you were strong willed and never gave up nothing could touch you.
you got this kid. you are a true inspiration to all of us, and especially anyone who has ever picked up a skateboard.
it really is a long way from your heart because you have more heart than most people ever will.

Johnny stay strong…
Just a few years ago a friend also a skater got sick, he was only 18. Before he got sick he was working at Khaos Skate Shop and was fine, all of a sudden he couldnt skate anymore but he didnt pay much attantion he just stop skating until one day, he came to the shop and couldnt breath right, he sat in a sofa and when he woke up he couldnt walk more than 5 feet, he was take to the near by hospital and diagnose with a weird type of cancer given on 5 or 10 % chance of surving, after all treatment and surgery he is now doing well and clear of cancer for the pass 3 years …

If I can laugh and stay positive my problems don’t seem so much like problems. I know you are going through some heavy stuff that i’ve never been through directly and i respect and admire your strength. The new thrasher (july 2008) has a hilarious article by mike burnett in it about a rvca tour through china that made me laugh so hard i couldn’t breath. hopefully you’ll find some comical stuff in the mags that can transport you out of the drudgery of hospital life to a place of lightness and joy. sorry, i’m a hippy. my middle name is elfstone (it really is). i can’t help it. that should make you laugh.

Doctor’s always said that Drew would never live past his seventh birthday. Well, Drew is still 3 years younger than me (as he always was… funny how that works) and I’m 33 now, so do the math. You can do it too. Eat right, take care of yourself and always live up! Keep on doing exactly what you love and you’ll still be shreddin the gnar when you’re sixty!

Also, don’t think about letting cancer get in the way of your love for skateboarding. Both God and myself are going to make sure you are fine.
