Rob ‘Sluggo’ Boyce is as REAL as they come. When he won $500 in the Vans Protech Pool Party contest he turned right around and donated it to the Johnnykickscancer Foundation. Thank you Sluggo for everything you’ve done in skateboarding and continue to do, skateboarding is in good hands with people like you involved.
Thanks to everyone who came out Friday night to support our good friend and ultimate metalhead Devon Blood who just released his book Keep Laughing which chronicles his life, art and rehabilitation since being shot in the head in 2006. Truly humbled by the community that appreciates Devon’s difficult but triumphant story of learning how to make art again left-handed. And of course thanks to Ninkasi brewing for the delicious beverages.
Over the weekend Bill’s Wheels in Santa Cruz threw a party for the release of Emmanuel Guzman’s Circa Pro Shoe and their new custom Spitfire F1 Wheel that Guzman designed. The Circa crew of Ramondetta, Robbie Brockel and Guzman all shredded the ramps and celebrated with Guzman’s families and friends. Thanks to Circa and everyone at Bill’s wheels for putting on such a rad event, can’t wait for the next one.
We’re giving away 1 set to anyone that helps us congratulate Tom on his new Fallen Pro Shoe. For details on how to win go to facebook.com/thunder.trucks
Crys Worley and Peter Karvonen from ASkate invited me to join them at the Masters of Tattoo convention to help raise money for A.Skate. The convention was held at Hollywood Park Casino and Racetrack, near LAX. The convention was put together by Mister Cartoon and Permanent Mark. It hosted countless legends in tattooing, from Freddy Corbin to Hanky Panky to Mike Wilson to Jack Rudy. And also the guys that have cut their teeth and are doing amazing things like Bert Krak, Todd Noble, Dan Smith and Tim Hendricks. Seriously so many amazing artists doing amazing work, selling shirts, prints and books. Wendy Bezel of Bezel Books was there too. She distributes all kinds of tattoo books, like Grime’s Iron Will and Shawn Barbers’ book of paintings. The event was two days long and a portion of the proceeds went to raise money for ASkate to help raise awareness of Autism, providing autistic children an outlet with skateboarding and working towards a cure. So of course I had to get a few tattoos. - Darin Howard.
We just want to say thanks to everyone out there who supports Real, Spitfire, Anti Hero, Thunder and Krooked. Post your photos of yourself on the DELUXE Facebook page and your photo might get picked to be featured right here on DLXSF.com.
